A three day weekend put to good use...
When we were spending our second honeymoon in gorgeous Italy we
realized that we were being so adventurous seeing so much of this amazing
country. Yet we did not take that much time to see our own backyard, Texas .
Sure we have done the few cross country road trips like to the Grand Canyon and back in 4 days, I know crazy. To New York to visit family and not wanting to leave our precious Mochito (our maltipoo) with other people. I have driven to California 2 times with my sister. To Kansas Missouri to pick up our 2.5 pound little bundle of joy Mochito. As you can see nothing there is in Texas only driving by to leave the state.

So the hubby and I decided that we are going to make an effort to explore Texas. During the school year I have very little time off, but there can always be a few days to escape on a road trip. We did just that for our three day labor day weekend. It will be my last for a few months so we made the best of it.
We packed the hubby's car including our overly excited Mochito and left early Saturday morning to explore a little of Texas. Hubby won the destination since he does all the driving, I figured it was only fair. I will get my choice (beach) next time, I hope! His choice, Canyon area close to the pan handle. Neither of us had ever been so the adventure began. I swear the hubby loves to drive, because he always suggests these kind of trips.

While starting our drive and me reading out loud some Texas history lessons from our Texas State Highway magazine, we decided to go by Dallas. Then hubby remembered his favorite show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and how Guy Fieri had been in Fort Worth at Fred's Texas Cafe. So we had to make a stop there. Remember he is Señor Foodie to the extreme, he really wants Guy's job! Guy if you are listening he will be your assistant, or the one that finishes all the food that you can't eat!
Off we went with stomachs full and satisfied, to make it to Amarillo before night time. In the mean time we made a few little stops for me to take some amazing pictures. Texas has some very interesting landscapes and views.
We arrived to Amarillo, which is very different from Houston. There is so much to do there or near there so i know we will be going back. Next day our adventure to Canyon area began. We made it to Palo Duro Canyon State Park in Canyon,Texas and it was worth the long drive. I am city girl to the max and I know that but even someone like me can appreciate the beauty that is Palo Duro. It was like a smaller grand Canyon. The rich colors of the landscapes made for some gorgeous pictures. We shared some that you see on our Instagram.

Since we were already in Amarillo we decided to go down the street to Potter, TX to see the Cadillac Ranch. For the artist in me it was amazing to see this art installation. The colors that all the people have used to draw on the cars really stand out especially in contrast to the cloudy sky that was above them. We really suggest everyone stop by and explore this famous creation.

Our next stop came from our history lessons Remember them? The ones I was reading from the Texas Highway magazine. We had no idea that we had England's Stonehenge replica right here in Texas. In Odessa, Texas to be exact. It was one of those things we had to see for ourselves. Neither of us have seen the real Stonehenge in person so we cant compare but it was beautiful to see.

We went to other small stops and we saw so much from this our first of many Texas road trips. But like all good things they must come to an end.
